Any tips on being a transguy in an all girls gym class? Locker rooms?
This is a follow-up to the great advice given by personal trainer Gael Guevara in Tip #15: Personal Trainer Gael Guevara has questions you should ask when choosing a gym. There are a slew of baseline questions everyone should ask themselves & the gym staff when selecting the right gym for them – I know I applied a lot of the points Gael makes when I decided on my current gym. It’s the right location (near work), the right price ($20 / month), is clean, has the equipment I want, and always has trainers on duty to answer questions.
However, there were definitely some more specific questions I had to ask myself before I’ve selected the gyms in my life – and the satisfactory answer to those ultimately led me to my decisions.
Let me set the scene for you. I’ve been on T for about 1.5 years now, I started patronizing gyms shortly after I began taking T. I started with Androgel. My initial goal was increased general & cardio fitness and my current goal is muscle devopment. When I signed up for my first gym, I wasn’t being read as male most of the time. By the time I moved to New York, the time I found myself signing up for the second gym membership I’ve ever had, I was being read as male all the time.
The reason I set that stage is because those experiences are what influenced the questions I’ve asked myself when selecting gyms & they’ve played a role in my selection. For that reason, this article will not pertain to every guy out there – but I hope it resonates with & informs some.
